The HELIX Snail Producers’
Cooperative was established on 15th April, 2003 with the aim of developing
snail production in the region of Srem as well as creating optimal
conditions for snail marketing. |
| Our snail farms are located in the villages
of Voganj and Novi Slankamen in
Srem, Vojvodina. In the year 2004,
we expect to have a crop of 40 tons of vineyard snail
(Helix Pomatia) as a
result of the extensive method of snail farming applied in our farms
which cover 3.5 hectares of land. |

The soil quality from our farms has been tested by the Agricultural
Institute of Novi Sad. Our farms have been proved to meet
the criteria of the Republic Veterinary Inspection,
and the quality of our product as well as its nutrient composition
have been tested by the Faculty of Technology in
Novi Sad. Therefore, we believe that the quality of our snail meets
the high European standards. |
The HELIX Snail Producers’
Cooperative expects the joining of new members, which would generate
a larger crop for the cooperative, making us more competitive and
providing a better position not only on the local but also the foreign
market. |
The development of our farms as well as the establishment of the
cooperative were jointly supported by America's Development Foundation
(ADF)
as well as the International Relief and Development (IRD)
organization. These non-government organizations are conducting
a CRDA (Community Revitalization through Democratic
Action) program within the USAID (United States
Agency for International Development) mission in Serbia.
